Конспект урока по английскому языку
в 9 классе

«New York, New York»

Цели урока:


  1. Расширение страноведческих и лингвистических знаний учащихся.

  2. Совершенствование умений и навыков практического владения английским языком по теме.

  3. Закрепление лексического и грамматического материала.

Задачи урока:

  • Образовательная:

    • познакомить с основными достопримечательностями Нью-Йорка в аудировании,

    • ввести новую лексику по теме «Достопримечательности Нью-Йорка».

  • Практическая:

    • активизировать употребление определенного артикля с географическими названиями;

    • тренировать тематическую лексику в чтении;

  • Развивающая:

    • развивать навыки в аудировании, чтении и устной речи по теме «Достопримечательности Нью-Йорка»;

    • совершенствовать учебно-информационные, учебно- коммуникативные умения;

  • Воспитательная:

    • воспитывать интерес к стране изучаемого языка;

    • повышать мотивацию к изучению английского языка.

Оснащение урока: магнитофон, дидактический раздаточный материал, карта Нью-Йорка.


Ход урока


I. Приветствие и организационный момент


Teacher: Good morning, glad to see you again! Today we’ll speak about one of the biggest cities in the world – New York. It is sometimes called “ The Big Apple”. New York is famous for its Empire State Building and Broadway, the skyscrapers and Brighton Beach. We know a lot about them, and, I think, it will be interesting for us to know some facts about well-known things. So let’s travel through New York and discover some useful information about the city.


II. Фонетическая зарядка.

Teacher: To start our work, let’s train some words. Let’s listen some districts’ names and repeat them after me:

Manhatten, Central Park, Staten Island, Brooklin, the Empire State Building, Queens, the Bronx, the Rockefeller Center, the Hudson, the Guggenheim Museum.


III. Речевая зарядка.

Teacher: What is the city famous for?

Where is the New York situated?

How many boroughs are there in New York. What are they ? Where would you like to go?

What can we see in the Guggenheim museum?
What do you know about its population?

What sights would you like to visit?


IV. Употребление артиклей с названиями городских объектов.

Teacher: First of all let’s review how to use the definite article with geographical and city objects names.Учащиеся изучают таблицу учебника на странице 15.

Read and translate the sentences from English into Russian.

1. I’d like to see Central Park and the Statue of Liberty.

2. New York is on the Hudson River.

3. The Empire State Building is the highest in new York.

4. You can see a collection of modern art in the Guggenheim Museum.

5. Another symbol of New York is the Rockefeller Center.

6. New York consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx.


VI. Работа с текстом.

Our friends Misha, Rob, Mark and Emily are planning their first day in New York. Let’s listen to the conversation .

Tapescript:

Emily: What would you like to do today, guys?

Misha: I’d like to see New York’s most famous sights: the Empire State Building, the Chrysler and the Pan American buildings.

Rob: I agree with you. Skyscrapers are really interesting. Let’s go for a walk and do some sightseeing.

Mark: And I’d like to see Central Park and the Statue of Liberty.

Emily: Well, we don’t have too much time. Let’s do the main part of Manhattan today. It has a lot of attractions and you’ll be able to get a good first impression. If we don’t have enough time for Central Park, we’ll do it tomorrow.

Misha: What’s Manhattan?

Mark: Come on, Misha. Don’t you know? New York is on the Hudson river and consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx. I’ve read about them.

Emily: You’re right. We should see them all, but Manhattan is the heart of our city, so let’s start with it.

New York is on the Hudson River. Another name for New York is Big Apple. It consists of five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx. The heart of New York is Manhattan. It has a lot of places of interest. The Empire State Building is one of them. It became the tallest skyscraper in New York on September 11, 2001. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center used to be higher, but were destroyed by terrorists. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is a real architectural masterpiece, was named in honor of its founder. It has a great collection of modern art. The Guggenheim Museum is famous for is extravagant building, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The millions of immigrants who had come to America by sea were welcomed by the Statue of Liberty. It is one of the most famous symbols of America. Broadway isn’t just one of the longest avenues in Manhattan. It is also famous for the small areas, near Times Square were Broadway crosses Seventh Avenue. This is the home of many Broadway theatres. This part of Broadway is also known as “ the Great White Way” and is always full of tourists. Another symbol of New York is the Rockefeller Center. In winter time, you can see the Rockefeller Center Christmas trees which are the largest and the most beautiful in New York.. The fastest way to see New York is by metro. You need to buy a MetroCard, and it will take you all over the city.

VII. Объяснение домашнего задания.

Составить сообщение о Нью-Йорке, основываясь на содержании текста и информации, полученной на уроке.

So our lesson is coming to the end. I hope you will remember all information about New York.Thank you for your good work today. The result of this is your knowledge and successful answers during the lesson. It was a real pleasure to work with you. Tell me what remarkable in this city is and what you are surprised at.
