Тема: A job for life?

Данный урок является заключительным по теме и представляет собой урок-дискуссию с элементами ролевой игры.

Цель урока: обобщение и систематизация умений и навыков на основе монологических и диалогических высказываний по теме в форме дискуссии, деловой игры.


Развивающий аспект: развитие воображения, умения высказывать свою точку зрения, личное отношение к поставленной проблеме; умения аргументировать свое высказывание, определить и сформулировать собственные пути решения проблемы, развитие умений работать в парах и в группах


Воспитательный аспект: воспитание толерантного отношения учащихся друг к другу, способности к сотрудничеству и умению общаться.

I. The greeting.

T: Good morning, girls. Nice to see you. Today we continue our work on the topic “A job for life?” We’ll practice some vocabulary, develop speaking abilities, practice listening, and writing a letter of application (Слайд 1)

II. Warm-up

  1. T: Can you imagine an imaginary menagerie manager managing an imaginary menagerie? (Слайд 2)

P1-P2-P3: Yes, I can imagine an imaginary menagerie manager managing an imaginary menagerie.

  1. T: Is there a word connected with our topic?

P1: a manager

T: What skills, abilities, and qualities should a manager have?

P1-P2-P3 a manager should have flexibility, administrative skills, a sharp mind, ambition,
numeracy & literacy,
initiative, ability to work to tight dead lines, leadership.

T: Yes, that’s right. (Слайд 3)

3. T: Now we’ll watch some video about top careers of the future. The task of each group is to choose a job

you would like to have in the future and tell us what skills, abilities, and qualities you have and lack. (Clip)

A computer network analyst – a person who works with and analyze network

A computer software engineer — a person who writes computer programs

A personal and home care aide — a person WHO DOES THE ROUTINE OF HOUSEKEEPING for people who can’t cope with that.

A home health care aide – a person who looks after sick people at home, give them a medicine, change bandages etc.

A medical assistant

A mental health counselor — a person who helps people to get rid of their bad habits such as drugs, alcohol etc.

A personal financial advisor — gives people some financial advices

A financial analyst – studies the financial market

A veterinary technician — does some laboratory work

Ps work in groups, and then speak

  • G1: we’d like to be computer software engineers. We know foreign languages very well, we are ambitious, we have a sharp mind and good IT skills but I (p1) lack the ability to work hard.

G2: we’d like to be personal and home care aides, because we want to take care of old people, we are sociable, helpful, and kind, but (p2) I lack initiative.

G3: we’d like to be financial analysts, because we have teamwork skills, ability to work to tight deadlines, but I (p3) lack the ability to work under pressure.

III. Speaking.

  1. T: Once we decided to be e.g. a manager, what should we do next?

P1: write a letter of application

T: What language should we use: formal or informal?

P2: formal

2. T: Now let’s recall: look at the board and match formal language with informal language (Слайд 4)

3. T: But how to organize a letter of application? Let’s read a letter and draw the layout of the letter. (Слайд 5)

P1: the beginning (на доске P1 прикрепляет план письма)

P2: the 1 paragraph

P3: the 2 paragraph

P4: the 3 paragraph

P5: the end

4. T: now I’ll give you different parts of a letter. Put them in the correct order.

Ps: work in 3 groups

T: let’s check up (Слайд 6 проверяют по слайду) Is everything right?

T: Your h/t will be to write a letter of application using a job advertisement p.54

IV. Listening.

  1. T: Now let’s listen to a job interview. (CD, 1.19) And guess what job is the applicant applying for?

Ps: listen, and answer the question.

2. Now your task is to work in pairs (3 pairs) and complete different job interviews using some information. There will be a group of psychologists (3 girls) that will comment on your interviews.

Ps: work in pairs (лингафонное оборудование, режим «Диалог» )

3. Ps: act out the dialogues, psychologists comment

V. The end

T: Your marks for the lesson. Thank you for your work. The lesson is over, goodbye.
